Why you should give a fuck.
Lately many of my friends, myself included, have embraced a new life style. It all started with the website “Total Frat Move” and the coining of the term “Too Frat To Care”. Slowly this mentality of not caring increased to the point of becoming the new mantra of what seems to be my entire generation “I don’t give a fuck”. This term of course comes more as an excuse for poor behavior than anything else. I am here today to explain to everyone exactly why you do give a fuck.
I will start with a personal argument to show where my view comes from, moving onto how the offset of this mentality is not only harmful to one’s physical and mental well being, but society in general.
Here is a question for you, have you ever been depressed? For people that have suffered depression a main part most of the time is extreme apathy. Now apathy in it’s purest form has struck me. If you have ever spent 3 days straight in your bed without talking to anyone, watching tv, or even reading anything. Then you have truly experienced “not giving a fuck”. Guess what, if you don’t give a fuck you don’t get up to eat, drink, or fuck. If you are in the true state of mind of not giving a fuck, you don’t go to class without showing; you just don’t go to class at all. When I say you don’t go to class, I mean you skip class not because you have something else to do but because the thought of leaving your bed is physically painful.
With the depression aside it also has another major problem. Not giving a fuck has a horrible side effect, the inability to express or feel passion. Now I have already used the cliché “life is too short” and I feel that you as a reader should know why I am a fan of clichés. If you think about it “clichés” are clichés for a reason; because they are totally true. Ok now back to the main topic, life is truly to short to not live passionately. If you want something do everything you can to take it, if you don’t like someone don’t bother with him or her. If you live without passion and live by someone else expectations of you then you will not be satisfied with your life. Nietzsche once said, “if a man reaches his ideal, in doing so he has surpassed it.” Get out and surpass your ideals. There is a difference between living and waiting to die, and if your not giving a fuck, trust me you’re wasting everyone else’s time.
And I don’t have enough time for you to waste it.
